In the Christian church many honors are accorded to Mary, the Mother of our lord Jesus. Many artists have painted pictures of her, poems have been written, and hymns sung. However, Joseph has received very little attention. Though not much is recorded about Joseph in the Bible; it is certain that he had a significant impact and impression on Jesus, his son. In Matt 1:19, Joseph is described as a just man.
We have no Scriptural certainty, but Jesus undoubtedly worked close beside Joseph in the carpenter shop. It is fairly certain Joseph worshipped regularly, as we see him travel and return to Jerusalem at the time of the Passover. Joseph search diligently with Mary to find Jesus, teaching the Scribes.
It is also pretty evident by Jesus use of Fathers in the parables that Joseph was significant for Jesus. One parable spoke of an older 7 younger son; when the older son went away and spent his inheritance and lived an evil life, coming back his father still loved him as much as his older obedient son.
Jesus taught by this parable; that the Heavenly Father loves all as His children even when we go astray. When you think of God as your Father, then you begin to sense how much He loves you and wants to provide for you and help you out, even when you are in trouble.
God the Father also guides you when necessary, so you can become a better person. So as you celebrate this month the love of your earthly fathers; remember you have a Heavenly Father that loves you even more and is with you forever!
In Christ Jesus,
Pastor David
