January
In January we celebrate Epiphany! The Wise Men or Magi are the focus of the Festival we celebrate on or near January 6th. Some call the celebration little Christmas and Christians who hold that time sacred also hold up from taking down their Christmas decorations until January 6th is over. This is to savor the most important birth that ever took place in history the birth of the Savior of the world, Jesus the Messiah. When we consider the Wise Men it is not so important what they knew as it was important for them to meet and know the One whom they were seeking. God gives mankind all kinds of knowledge. Facts can be found everywhere; we understand some and are still yearning to understand others. Even the King Solomon in his Book of Proverbs stated it clearly: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Proverbs 1:7 and St. James writes, if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.
The Wise men knew to whom they needed to go to find wisdom. They were willing to put all of their time effort and energy into getting to where to One was, who alone could give the wisdom. I wonder what would happen in the life and ministry of our congregation, if we in the Church, spent even a quarter of the time, effort and energy and resources in seeking the Lord. Granted those Kings were rich; but so are we. Rich in abilities, in resources (we have a lot in the United States), rich in time (24 hours every day of our lives). The Wise Men gathered up all they had and spent it; searching for Jesus. When they found Him; they gave all they had to Jesus. THAT WAS WISDOM!
What about you? Have you found the Lord Jesus yet? Are you still searching? Have you given up and gone looking for something or someone else who that cannot satisfy your soul? If you have reached the place where He is; why don’t you open up your life to Him? St Paul says, … I urge you, brothers (sisters too), in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12: 1.
On coming to the house, they saw the Child…and they bowed down and worshipped Him! Matthew 2:11. Will you? Blessed Epiphany!
