March

There is a saying about the month of March. It will either come in like a lion and go out like a lamb or come in like a lamb and go out like a lion. Either way it is interesting that Jesus Christ our Lord is referred to as both Lion and Lamb. In Revelation 5:5 Jesus is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and we are told that He is triumphant. The features of a lion are always majesty, strength, courage and it signifies royalty. Our Lord is all of these and much more. Though Satan is also described as a roaring lion seeking someone to devour; Jesus has overcome this loud, obnoxious foe. Because of our Lord, this lion, foe has had is teeth removed and as Luther says, he can harm us none, he’s judged, the deed is done, one little Word can fell him! That Word we know from the book of John is Jesus, flesh and blood, and against Him the roaring lion, Satan has no power at all!

Our Lord is also described as a Lamb in Scripture as well. A lamb in comparison to a lion is meek, quiet, vulnerable and a prey of the lion. Jesus is like that. Before Pilate, like a lamb led to the slaughter He opened not His mouth. He will for sure have the last say on that final day when He comes in glory. The lamb is also associated with the sacrifices of the people of Israel. Lambs were always used as a pleasing sacrifice to God.

They were innocent, pure and spotless and their blood was offered to gain the favor of God. Our Savior is the only Lamb we will ever need. He was sacrificed once and for all of us. God is no longer angry with us because His Son shed His blood on our behalf.

Like the saying mentioned earlier about the month of March; Jesus came into this world like a Lamb, but He will come back again like a Lion, majestic, strong, courageous and as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Thanks be to God that Jesus has done all of this for us, who neither deserve it, nor can we ever earn the favor of the Father. He loved us while we were yet sinners and He has set us free to reign with Him forever.
