Pastor's Place

March

March and April are transitional months here in the Northeastern United States. Winter weather is not completely over and spring-time weather has not yet arrived. Believe that we here at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School are also in a time of transition. We are certainly not closing our doors or packing it in; we have chosen to move forward into a vibrant, future ministry. We’ve begun to take steps towards growth! But it’s transitional because we aren’t all the way there yet. We know Spring-time is coming; but it still seems sometimes a lot like Winter for us.

In transitional times in northern climates; there are things people do to get ready. Some start their vegetables or flowers in the basement or some other part of the house in anticipation of planting them outside. Some start to thin out their winter clothes and begin to bring the lighter warmer weather clothing towards the front of their closets.

In anticipation of a growing, thriving ministry here at St. Matthew; we can begin to get ready.

First, be in prayer!

Ask God to pour out His Holy Spirit upon us. There is no limit to the power of the Holy Spirit when it comes to growth!

Second, be open!

Be willing and welcoming for whatever God might show us to do.

Third, be supportive!

Support your leaders and everyone who is trying to encourage growth in our church.

Fourth, be willing to take part!

Don’t just watch what’s going on; find a way to get involved! Also welcome new people as they offer to help. Teach them how you do things and welcome new ways. We are never too old to learn; or too young.

Fifth, try not to be critical!

Give people a chance to find their place in our church and school. Welcome the help that people offer. There’s plenty for all of us to do.

One thing that is very important for all of us to do in this transitional time is to ask the Lord to unite us in vision! Begin to seek that vision by asking: Lord what do you want St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School to be for everyone you send here? As God gives you answers for that question; please share it with your Pastor and Leaders. God will reveal our purpose and we will have a valuable ministry for years to come. Hear God’s Word:                                                                                    Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland … to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise! Isaiah 43: 19-21.
